How to Be a Good Person

How to Be a Good Person

Our Father in heaven wants us to be good sons and daughters for Him.  He wants us to respect Him. He wants us to love Him wholeheartedly (Deut. 6:5).  He wants us to stop swearing, so we will not bring curses upon ourselves.  He wants us to stop dwelling on what is evil, because those evil thoughts will eventually become evil actions.   He wants us to practice moderation in all things, because He does not want us to hurt ourselves.  He wants us to do good things that help us, instead of bad things that can harm us (Deut. 6:18, 24).  He wants us to stay out of trouble, by engaging in good and productive things (Titus 3:14).

What better way could there be, to do good things, than to help those who are in need?   By helping the blind, the lame, the sick and the elderly, we learn to care for others in need (Luke 14:13-14; 10:37).  We learn to be sensitive to the needs of others.  We learn compassion, forgiveness, patience, kindness, goodness, joy, faithfulness, gentleness, and most of all, how to love our neighbor.  These are the fruits of the Spirit, which come from serving others in a godly way every day (Gal. 5:22-24).  Remember, the greatest in the kingdom will be the servant of the most (Matt. 25:33-40; 23:11; Mark 9:35; 10:43-44)!
