Be Like Jesus Christ

Be Like Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ lived to please only the Father and we too should live only to please the Lord.  We do this by making all our ways pleasing in His sight (Psalm 19:14).   That means we can no longer live a life of evil, but only a life of doing good.

It is impossible to be good without doing good in God’s eyes (1 John 3:7).  You cannot overcome evil by refraining from evil, but you overcome evil by doing good (1 Peter 3:10-11).

Jesus did not harbor any ill feelings toward others.  He even did good to His enemies (Matt. 5:44).  He was a good example in word and deed.  Acts 10:38 simply states, "He went about doing good."  He did this to please God and to be our example of how to live this holy Way (John 8:29).

Jesus did good in the Father’s name and we are instructed to imitate Him (John 10:25; Eph. 5:1).  We are to do all the good we do in Jesus’ name for the glory of the Father without calling attention to ourselves (Matt. 6:1; Col. 3:17).  Jesus was kind, tender-hearted and forgiving (Prov. 19:22).  All that Jesus was can be summarized in one simple word - charity.

When we practice charity toward others in word and deed throughout the day, our sins and shortcomings are forgiven, because charity covers a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:8; Prov. 10:12).  Jesus said, "But give that which is within as charity, and all things are clean for you" (Luke 11:41).  He was telling us that we can live a sinless life before God each day when all our actions come from a heart of love (Matt. 5:20; Eph. 6:6).  He makes it possible, and so enjoyable (Matt. 11:29-30).

It is time to have an attitude of gratitude toward God and live only to please Him each day.  It is time to imitate Jesus Christ and live a life of charity, and be obedient to His word (Prov. 16:7).  Now is the time to be found innocent and blameless in the midst of an increasingly perverted and sinful world (Phil. 2:15).  Don’t you agree?
